Responsibility
The Department of Finance is responsible for establishing and maintaining sound fiscal policies for the City (Administration), promptly disbursing funds for city purchases (
Accounts Payable), accounting for the City's financial resources (
Accounting), processing the payroll of the City of Roanoke, and the Pension Plan (
Payroll), and administering the City's own retirement system (
Retirement).
In addition, the
Department of Billings and Collections and the
Office of Real Estate Valuation report to the Director of Finance. Billings and Collections is responsible for local tax administration, delinquent tax collection, parking ticket administration, and accounts receivable billing. The Office of Real Estate Valuation is responsible for appraising all real property.
