Mission/Vision

We will provide quality solid waste, recyclable, and waste reduction services to our customers by utilizing the most cost efficient means. We are committed to service excellence, effective programs, a safe and healthy environment, administering rules and regulations, and landfilling alternatives.

Responsibility

The Division of Solid Waste Management provides weekly collection of residential refuse, bulk & brush, recycling, commercial refuse collection, and seasonal collection of bagged leaves. See below for a brief description of our programs:

Residential Refuse Collection:
A weekly collection broken down into three categories:
Automated, Recycling, and Bulk & Brush.

Automated:
A 96 gallon container, known as "Big Blue", is mechanically serviced by a One-Arm Bandit Truck.

Recycling Collection:
Provided on a bi-weekly basis the same day as residential refuse collection. To maximize the productivity of the program, we alternate the weeks of what is to be collected. One week, we collect newspapers, junk mail, chipboard boxes(cereal, pasta, gift, etc.), and corrugated cardboard. The next week, we collect aluminum, tin cans, glass bottles, and plastics #1 & #2. Tedious sorting by the citizen is not needed with this collection program.

Bulk and Brush Collection:
Provided on a bi-weekly basis the same day as residential refuse collection. Items that will not fit into the "Big Blue" are collected. There is a limit of six bulk items or the equivalent of a pickup truckload of brush (4' X 8') to be set curbside for collection.

Central Business District:
Provided six nights a week as well as Sunday morning. Please note Sunday morning collection is limited to the Market Square area only.

Bagged Leaf Collection:
Provided during a specific time period in the fall. Residents are encouraged to watch for additional information.
