Association for Energy Conservation Professionals
Based in Floyd, AECP puts on the annual Green Living and Energy Expo, an educational showcase of businesses and nonprofits that are engaged in innovative environmental practices. AECP also promotes and advocates for energy conservation and alternatives, and supports and sponsors education and training for its members.

Blue Ridge Environmental Network
A nonprofit association of environmental groups in Southwest Virginia that helps organize communitywide events such as Earth Day celebrations.

Blue Ridge Soil & Water Conservation District
An autonomous, elected body that promotes conservation of soil and water resources through education and programs – one of 47 such districts under the Virginia Department of Conservation & Recreation.

Clean Valley Council
Provides education and resources related to litter prevention, recycling, and reduction of the waste stream, in a region comprising the City of Roanoke, Roanoke County, the City of Salem, the Town of Vinton, and Botetourt County. CVC hosts the annual Clean Valley Day, the Fall Waterways Cleanup, and the Earth Summit for high school students, as well as numerous education programs throughout the year.

RIDE Solutions
This initiative of the Roanoke Valley-Alleghany Regional Commission advocates and provides information and referral for alternatives to single-vehicle transportation, such as carpool matching, bike route mapping, and telecommuting. Works with groups such as ShareBike, which supports the availability of a fleet of bicycles for short-term use by anyone in the community.

Roanoke Community Garden Association
RCGA’s mission is to create sustainable community gardens throughout the Roanoke Valley. Its flagship is the Frank Roupas Community Garden in Southeast, dedicated in December 2009.

Roanoke Permaculture Education Guild
Promotes an integrated approach to sustainability through such practices as planting edible landscapes, expanding the urban forest, and composting, with an eye toward healing the earth and encouraging self-sufficiency.

Roanoke Valley Cool Cities Coalition
Cool Cities uses education, outreach, and community action to work toward policy-level solutions to the problem of global warming.

Roanoke Valley Greenways Commission
The Roanoke Valley Greenways Commission is an umbrella organization for the development of the valleywide greenways network by the City of Roanoke, Roanoke County, the City of Salem and the Town of Vinton. Pathfinders for Greenways is a partner group that provides an outlet for volunteers who want to work on greenways projects.

Roanoke Valley Resource Authority
RVRA provides solid waste disposal for the City of Roanoke, Roanoke County, and the Town of Vinton. It also offers disposal services for hazardous household wastes such as paint, batteries, and fuel products. Residents may register for special drop-off events on the third Saturday of every month.

Western Virginia Land Trust
WVLT assists public and private landowners with placing property under conservation easement, to safeguard open spaces from development.

Western Virginia Water Authority
WVWA provides water utility service for the City of Roanoke, Roanoke County, and Franklin County, including fresh water supply and wastewater treatment.
