Computer Classes are offered at many of our branches. We are dedicated to providing students with the skills they need to begin working with computers. For those already familiar with the basics of computing, we offer more advanced classes as well. Please read the course descriptions below to get a taste of the classes we offer.

Meet the Mouse
This course introduces students to the computer, the keyboard and mouse, and the basic use of programs. No prior knowledge is assumed. By the end of the course students should be able to name the basic parts of the computer, use the keyboard and the mouse, navigate the desktop, and open files and programs.
Prerequisites: None.
Windows Basics
This course builds off the basics learned in Meet the Mouse and delves deeper into the functions of the computer. Students learn about keyboard functions, the form of windows and menus in Windows XP, important system tools, and what to look for when encountering a program on the computer for the first time.
Prerequisites: Meet the Mouse (or basic computer skills).
Microsoft Word I
This course introduces students to Microsoft Word, a popular word processing program. By the end of the course students will learn how to open and close the program as well as how to create, open, save, and print documents. Basic formatting of documents will also be discussed.
Prerequisites: Meet the Mouse (or basic computer skills).
Microsoft Word II
This course focuses on editing and formatting Microsoft Word documents. Topics include: spelling and grammar checks, page, paragraph, and line formatting, inserting headers and footers, and managing pictures.
Prerequisites: Microsoft Word I (or equivalent computer skills).
Navigating the Net
This course introduces students to the Internet. By the end of the course students will understand what the Internet is, how to connect to it, how to view (or “visit”) a web page and how to perform a basic Web search. An “Internet scavenger hunt” is provided with links to a variety of helpful and interesting sites.
Prerequisites: Meet the Mouse (or basic computer skills)
Better Web Searching
This course will help users to more effectively perform web searches. Advanced search tools will be discussed as well as specialty search engines, Boolean operators, and other search techniques.
Prerequisites: Navigating the Net (or equivalent computer skills).
Introduction to Email
This course covers the basics of using Google’s email service (Gmail). By the end of the course students will have created their own email account and will know how to check their email, reply to and forward received messages, compose new messages, and even attach files!
Prerequisites: Navigating the Net (or equivalent computer skills).
Entering (or Re-Entering) the Workforce
This course is intended to prepare users to enter (or re-enter) the job market. Part of the class will focus on using Microsoft Word to create attractive and effective resumes. Other topics will include searching for jobs on the Internet and filling out applications online.
Prerequisites: Microsoft Word I and Navigating the Net (or equivalent computer skills).
