Event Policies

ANIMALS:
Animals are not permitted in the Roanoke Civic Center except for guide, sign, and signal dogs to aide patrons with disabilities.


ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES:
Alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs, glass or metal containers of any kind may not be brought into the facility. Any such items will be confiscated.


AUDIO & VIDEO:
The permitted use of cameras varies by event. Cameras with professional lenses and flash attachments are prohibited from the Roanoke Civic Center. Audio and video recording devices are not permitted.


FIREARMS & WEAPONS:
No persons are permitted to bring illegal weapons of any kind into the Civic Center. Law enforcement officials who are present in a non-working function and are armed should be brought to the attention of the manager-on-duty or the event manager and will be required to show identification. Anyone with an illegal weapon will be reported to authorities. Anyone with a concealed weapon will be asked to return it to their vehicle. All items, including coats and small bags such as purses and diaper bags, are subject to inspection.


FIRST AID:
The first aid station is located on the north concourse between gates 8 and 9. Emergency medical personnel is on site during most major and multiple events for guests in need of assistance. In addition to basic first aid treatment, an AED (automatic external defibrillator) is located in the administrative office located on the south concourse between gates 3 and 4.


INTOXICATED PATRONS:
Intoxicated patrons will not be admitted into the Civic Center at any time. Intoxicated patrons are subject to ejection from the event. Persons denied entry into the facility will be offered a full refund from the Civic Center box office.


LOST CHILDREN/PERSONS:
Anyone finding a lost child should immediately escort the child to the administrative office of the Civic Center located on the south side of the building between gates 3 and 4. A brief description of the child will be circulated to security and guest services. A public address announcement may be made if the incident occurs during an event. If the child is not picked up within one hour of the event's conclusion, the police will be notified by the event manager or manager-on-duty. Other patrons that are lost will be brought to the administrative office and a brief description will be transmitted to Civic Center supervisors.


LOST & FOUND:
Any items found before, during, and after an event should be turned in to the administrative office. Items will be held for 90 days.


NOISE MAKERS & LASER POINTERS:
Noise makers (horns, whistles, etc.) and laser pointers of any kind are not allowed in the Civic Center at any time. These items are subject to confiscation.


PARKING:
The Roanoke Civic Center can accommodate up to 1,800 vehicles in a well-lit parking lot. On the occasion of multiple or consecutive events, the Civic Center offers a FREE shuttle service from area garages.

There is no charge to park in the garage or to ride the bus. We encourage guests to allow plenty of time to be seated before the event begins.

Handicapped parking is available to patrons with proper identification (mirror tag and/or license plate). Anyone parking in a handicapped space without a proper permit will be fined by City of Roanoke police and the vehicle is subject to towing. Parking lot security patrols our parking lot frequently to help prevent fraudulent parking by non-handicapped patrons.

Parking at the Civic Center is FREE.


RE-ENTRY:
The Roanoke Civic Center does not allow re-entry into the facility. Individuals with an admission ticket who enter the facility for an event and then leave the Civic Center are not allowed back in after initial admission. This rule does not apply to patrons using the smoking area.


SMOKING:
The Roanoke Civic Center is a smoke-free facility. Smoking is not permitted in public areas of the auditorium, coliseum, or exhibit hall. Patrons wishing to smoke must use designated smoking areas outside the building. Designated areas are as follows: Coliseum - Gate 4 on the south side; Auditorium - veranda on the mezzanine level; Exhibit Hall - steps at front entrance.


TAG-A-KID:
As a special service to our guests with children, we now offer the Tag-A-Kid program. Guests can acquire special wristbands from the box office prior to the event. Wristbands will be marked to identify seating locations where parents/guardians might be found if a child is lost. This service is FREE.


TICKET COSTS:
Costs of tickets vary by event. Children age 2 and under do not require a ticket to most events, however they must be held in an adult's lap without obstructing anyone's view of the show. *Contact the ticket office for more information.

*Group rate discounts are available to groups of 20 or more on Broadway In Roanoke series and most family shows.
